Healy to Lead State GOP

Simmons campaign manager Chris Healy will be the new chairman of the Republican Party:

Healy, 49, of Wethersfield, will give up a lobbying practice at the state Capitol to help the GOP navigate a political landscape soon to be transformed by a new system of publicly financing campaigns for state office.
[...]
Healy, the fourth chairman to lead the GOP since Rell became governor in July 2004, takes over a party that is struggling for relevance and an identity at the state Capitol, where Republicans hold only 56 of 187 seats in the General Assembly.
[...]

Last month, Simmons considered seeking the chairmanship, with a plan of having Healy handle day-to-day operations as executive director.

Rell said Tuesday that Simmons, who may seek his old congressional seat in 2008, reconsidered. (Pazniokas)

Healy could be a very good choice, although Simmons himself might have been a better one. I have to wonder: why did Simmons “reconsider”? The obvious answer is that he’s planning on being busy with another run for Congress in 2008, but there may be other reasons as well.

This is good news. Chris is a seasoned veteran who knows his stuff and most certainly will help the party here in CT. He isn’t afraid to roll up his sleeves and get his hands dirty and has a wealth of experience. I for one am proud that he is leading my party.

Chris Healy is exactly what the state GOP needs right now and the Governor should be commended for selecting him.

Healy is an inspiring leader and tireless worker. He’s also smart as hell and he posseses a delightful sense of humor which allows him to not take himself too seriously.

The CT GOP has every reason to be optimistic that the election of Chris Healy as chairman last night marks a new beginning for them. Let’s hope, because our government works best when there’s real balance at work.

I met Chris Healy at a MoveOn/C.O.W. forum against extending the Iraq Occupation. He was there taking oppo video of freshmen Congressmen Murphy and Courtney, as they consorted with the “fringe”, you know those of us who are incensed about the Iraq Debacle.

Of course it was an overflow crowd, and his presence there was preventing a MoveOn member from attending. What a sleazeball!

Here is the post from his intemperant blog

I don’t know what motivates these people to hate our country.

Is this an example of his delightful sense of humor?
