Also in the Post article:
Among the other names in circulation are Greenwich businessman Tommy Hilfiger, Greenwich Democratic Chairman Jim Himes, state Sen. Andrew McDonald of Stamford, state Sen. Bob Duff of Norwalk, and state Rep. Jim Shapiro of Stamford.

I don't know anything about Himes (except that the Greenwich Dems seem to have spunk), but none of these names are exciting to me. Tommy Hilfiger?! Huh?

This is what Ned said during the FDL chat when I asked if he was in fact supporting Dodd.

Yes, I am helping out Chris Dodd any way I can- he stood up for our campaign in the general and took some heat for it, he is right on the big issues, he is a great guy who will wear well in the retail politics of Iowa and NH, and, did I mention, he is my senator from CT. But I can’t say that I have heard much bold thinking from any of our our candidates to date so now is the time to speak out.

Is it fair to assume that Lamont thinks that Dodd is the best presidential candidate?

Or is it more likely that he simply wants to support his loyal Senator? (like Ted Kennedy's prior plans to support John Kerry in 2008 ...)

I guess that I don't take Dodd seriously as a presidential candidate ... and Lamont's support for Dodd makes me think that he does not take this next presidential election very seriously. Loyalty is nice, but I think that Lamont could have easily put himself on the national stage if he wanted to ...

I'd be interested in knowing which presidential candidate gets Lamont's support. Lamont could probably be very helpful to whichever presidential candidate he chooses. I would also not be surprised to see him get a job in the next president's administration if the next president is a Democrat.

I think that Lamont would have his most fun by focusing his political energy in this way. In my opinion, Shays will have an easy time winning in the future -- 2006 was the year for him to get knocked out if it was going to happen. Lamont would probably feel like a big-time loser to spend a lot of energy taking on Shays and then losing. He'd have a lot more fun and be far more productive by helping his favorite presidential candidate.
