Featured Site!!!

I’d like to highlight the outstanding work that Wtfd Nuc Sailor is doing at his Waterford TownBlog. He has been faithfully and painstakingly chronicling the workings of town government there, and deserves a round of applause. If you’re in Waterford, you’ll want to check out this site.

The Berlin BlogWater, Water, Water cont.:

In response to the comment calling into question the premise of the Water post, I believe there is a misunderstanding. The point was not that the water commissions are concurrent. Yes, the districts cover different geographic areas, but nonetheless, the existence of three water commissions, some of which purchase water from one another, leads to inefficiencies even if they are not concurrent.

Bloomfield Town BlogWelcome to the Bloomfield Town Blog!:

Welcome to the Bloomfield Town Blog Webpage! We hope that you will become more informed about Bloomfield and all the happenings in our growing community.

Bridgeport Free PressRepresentative Implicated in Newton Scandal:

Sources within the Bridgeport Democratic Party verify that at the time that City Council President and recently elected State Representative Andres Ayala “had been currying favor in certain areas of town in order to attempt a mayoral run with associates of Sen. Newton.” Political pundits citywide agree that a candidate with Ayala’s voter base would find former Sen. Newton’s supporters at that time to be invaluable-if not “critical,” for success, and it is Ayala alone, sources say, who controls the purse strings and staff of the Legislative Services office in question.

Danbury’s BurningBRT and Downtown Danbury:

It is obvious to me that BRT would not have even thought of this project if not for the tax deferrals. Kudos to the council for giving the approval of the deferrel to BRT. Shame on Tom Saadi for failing to recognize that downtown Danbury is worth the investment and revitalization. Shame on Tom Saadi and the rest of the council Democrats to not look to Danbury’s future when the condominiums will be generating tax revenue for the city that wouldn’t have been there otherwise.

Real HartfordMajor Substance Bust in Hartford:

Over 100 children were arrested for underage drinking at a downtown club. The Courant only says it was at 81 Asylum. A google search shows that is the location of Fuel nightclub.

Right of Middle (Middletown) – The Friday File:

Those of us who frequently travel the I-84 stretch in Cheshire and Waterbury have been pleasantly surprised by the ease of travel there since the highway was widened and improved. Such pleasantness may soon cease. The state has found that new storm drains installed in the area are sub-standard and/or defective and travelers are going to face another round of congestion and delay as the repairs are made.

New Britain TownBlogNew Britain Legislative Update:

State Representative Tim O’Brien takes official blogging to a whole new level. First off, I think it’s awesome that New Britain’s elected representatives in the CT House and Senate get together once a month and record an hour long video program for Nutmeg TV where they chat about what’s happening at the Capitol.

Stafford Town BlogWaste Water Treatment Plant:

The State has received $500,000 from a settlement with Tyco for violations of the Clean Water Act. This money will be used for design. An Inter-Municipal Agreement with the Town of Ellington requires that Ellington bear some of the cost. In addition grants totaling approximately 28% may be available. First Southwest Financial, the Town’s financial advisors, stated that the cost to the taxpayer will be approximately $81.00 per year when completed.

A Referendum is scheduled for March 27, 2007, at the Stafford Public Library. Voting will be from 12:00 Noon to 8:00 P. M.

Windsor Locks, CTSignificant Raise for First Selectman:

The Board of Selectmen have requested the usual 4% raise for the First Selectman. On top of that they have requested to increase the number of hours for the First Selectman from 35 to 40.

This would mean that our First Selectman’s salary would increase from approximately $63k per year to $74k. An $11k increase.

I believe that our current First Selectman, Steve Wawruck, deserves every penny. The guy is there night and day. He attends a very high percentage of Board & Commission meetings. He is probably working 70 hours per week.
