Berlin Voters Approve Budget, Reject Technology Bonding

Berlin Blog has the story:

The results are in for the Budget/Bond referendum.

Town Budget Yes 1159 No 891
Technology Bond Yes 915 No 1078

So, the budget for 2007-08 is approved, while the technology bond loses by about 8 percentage points.

The real story, as usual, is turnout, or lack thereof. It looks like 2050 voters turned out, about 16% of the electorate. In fact, this is the lowest budget referendum turnout since the Charter was revised to require the budget to go directly to referendum.

And that, sadly, is the story of a lot of budget referenda. Low turnout. Too bad…

Speaking of the budget, Enfield citizens should attend the budget hearing tomorrow. It’s at JFK Middle School at 7pm, in the auditorium. I’m going to try to make it.

Is there going to be any bonding money for that naked karaoke bar they’ve been trying to get for so long?
