The contractor who supervised about $20,000 worth of renovations at the home of Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez isn’t properly registered with the state and could face criminal charges over the installation of a new bathroom and kitchen countertop at Perez’s house.
[...]
Perez, in a televised appearance on “Face the State” this weekend, said that he was initially intending to do some home renovation work himself. He asked Costa – a friend – for advice, and Costa suggested that he could do the work for Perez, the mayor said. (Altimari)
And that’s right, you do remember correctly: this guy and his company, which have never been registered as contractors, were doing about $5.3 million worth of work on a streetscape project in Hartford.
All innocent mistakes, I’m sure.

Not that I really want to defend these guys but the registration they are talking about is being registered as a home improvement contractor. If your company doesn’t do work that fits the legal definition of a home improvement then you don’t have to register. If this company was doing exclusively government and commercial jobs then its not that big of a surprise that they weren’t registered. It sort of backs Eddie’s claim that he sort of backed in to using this company since this is not the type of work they usually do. On the other hand, one can ask why they are doing work they don’t usually do for the Mayor of Hartford.
I’d be curious to know what kind of jobs that company has done in the past. And yeah, that’s the question.
If Hartford was a normal city – by any stretch – there would be a clear cut candidate blowing this out of the water, maybe even a couple of them. But, it’s Hartford, and, no one has been able to bring this to the light more than the splashing it’s made in the Courant. You think Art Feltman, Minnie Gonzalez, Frank Barrows or I. Charles are going to be able to bring this to a head? Ha! It’s a shame too, because I think at least two of those four would be decent Mayors.
Perez will be alright. After all, he’s got Liebercrats Dan Gerstein (W. Hartford), and Ken Curran (Bethlehem), working for him.
Worst case is they file for a do-over after losing, and win in November with strong Republican help and support!
Unless, of course, this free kitchen and bathroom scandal turns out to be the tip of the iceberg.
BTW, have reporters asked if Fast Eddie has a second home elsewhere? Or who paid for his last vacation? Just wondering…
Ctlocalpolitics presents: Real Men Of Genius*…
Tonight we salute you Mr. It-Doesn’t-Matter-What-Subject-Is.
You’ve got a hankerin to bash a tired subject into the ground rivaled only by your zest for all-you-can-eat buffets.
Has nothing to do with the thread up at the moment? Not a problem.
You have more ways to connect the dots than any Kevin Bacon game champ ever imagined.
So go ahead Mr. Missing Linker, throw back one of your favorite beverage (or Cass Elliot-sized ham sandwich), the subject at hand is whatever you want it to be
(*to get the ‘flavor’ of a real men of genius post, seek it as a youtube search term)
Kabong, is this all you’ve got left? Stalking me from thread to thread?
Yeah, I get to point out that Liebercrats Gerstein and Curran are running Fast Eddie Perez’s operation. And I get to do it at every turn.
I also am allowed to ask if the home renovations aren’t just the “tip of the iceberg.” With Rowland it turned out there was plenty more….
Blue is certainly entitled to his opinion, but I would say the fact that Lieberman operatives are running the Perez campaign is very much a non-factor in the eyes of the general voting public. At this point, Ned Lamont is no more than an interesting footnote in the history of Connecticut U.S. Senate elections. For whatever reason, some people simply refuse to comprehend that fact. I would like to thank Kabong for bringing up those old commercials, though. They were well-done in many instances.

It’s sad, really. Most 0f us get over our first crush. But TBCT and his friends are still driving past Ned’s house late at night or calling Ned’s home number then hanging up before anyone answers.
I guess they’re still mad at the guys who pantsed ‘em in gym, too. Everybody else thought it was pretty funny, though.
A.) El Kabong, the real man of genuis schtick is getting real old real fast. It’s truly kind of lacking, you should have quit while ahead.
