Rep. Chris Caruso suffered yet another setback in his quest to get the results of the September mayoral primary overturned when the Supreme Court denied his request to delay tomorrow’s election.
The state Supreme Court this afternoon unanimously denied Bridgeport State Rep. Christopher Caruso’s request to postpone the city’s municipal election so he could challenge his loss to state Sen. William Finch in the Democratic primary Sept. 11.The high court, in it’s two-paragraph order, did say it would hear the appeal filed by Caruso and unsuccessful city council candidate Toyka Simmons-Cook, alleging the primary was fraught with numerous polling place violations and voting irregularities. Here is the statement from Bill Finch:
I am gratified by the Supreme Court’s ruling in affirming the decision of the citizens of Bridgeport to let their voice stand. This is a great victory for the voters of this city.
I am sorry this dragged on as long as it did and at great cost to taxpayers of the City of Bridgeport and the State of Connecticut. I hope we can move forward in a unified fashion tomorrow. I humbly ask each and every resident of this great city to help us move forward by voting in tomorrow’s election and I ask for your support once more.
So this is probably the end of it, although the court will still hear Caruso’s arguments. Finch will almost certainly prevail tomorrow, although he may start his term as mayor under a cloud.

So while turning down Caruso’s attempt to stop the voting, in six brief rulings they gave him a long-shot attempt to come back to the Supreme Court at the end of November to resume arguments on overturning the mayoral primary he lost to state Sen. Bill Finch by 270 votes.

The court has scheduled Nov. 15 as its deadline for briefs and Nov. 30 — the day before Bridgeport Mayor John M. Fabrizi’s successor takes office — as its next date to hear oral arguments in his challenge to the September Democratic primary.

You’ve got to look at the picture in the Courant; I can’t decide if they’re getting engaged or announcing a spokesman deal with Jenny Craig.
