Rain Causes Problems with Voting Machines

by Genghis Conn · November 6th, 2007, 11:47 am · 6 Comments

Yes. Rain.

The rain caused minor problems with new optical scan voting machines at polling places in South Windsor, Hartford, and New Britain, Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz said.

Voters brushed their paper ballots against wet coats or other wet surfaces, then tried to feed them through voting machines, causing the machines to jam. In those cases, backup machines were pressed into service and voters were allowed to cast their ballots again.

So, if you’re headed out to vote, try not to get the ballots wet. This seems to be a scattered problem, and not necessarily a serious one.

Maybe SOTS will trash one of the new machines in Bushnell Park tomorrow, assuming the sun comes out. In other news, Rep. Caruso is suing God for fouling up election day with the blasted rain.

    >> Rep. Caruso is suing God for fouling

Judging from his own past behavior; I’m surprised he’s ever heard of him.

In what could be considered a closing argument to a committee of six senators, Attorney Craig A. Raabe tells the group in a new letter that Sen. Louis DeLuca does not deserve to be expelled from the Senate.

The 10-page letter summarizes the case for DeLuca, who is facing possible reprimand, censure, or expulsion from the Senate after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of conspiring with Danbury trash hauler James Galante to threaten DeLuca’s grandson-in-law, Mark Colella of Waterbury.

Maybe Susan B. should have spent more time troubleshooting her prized new machines rather than wasting time holding a media event designed only to promote herself. What benefit was there to physically destroy an old machine other than to get her name in the paper again? Now she can have her name in plenty of stories tomorrow trying to deflect blame for problems with her waterlogged machinery.

I just got back from my polling place where I’ve been campaigning all day. The new system was universally hated by voters. It may the one thing everyone in town can agree on!

Well than we can universally agree, most people are stupid and lazy. In this case, too lazy to have to use a pen, and place the ballot into the scanner…and too stupid to figure it out………
