Many of the absolutely silly bill proposals are done for constituents. They aren't going to pass, so who cares if they are floating around out there...What's the harm?

Is this comment related to anything, either in this thread or in this state? I’m not even sure that’s a sentence. Also.

Your correct. The grammar stinks. It should read" making Connecticut the most indebted state in the country." (on a per capita basis). I was distracted by working to pay my taxes.
However, since the thread raised the subject of apologies, I think it's very relevant. The taxpayers deserve one.

And perhaps while they’re at it, the Legislature could apologize to the taxpayers for making the most indebted in the country

Not that what I ask here is without it’s own set of problems, but what better way to celebrate Veteran’s Day, and give it meaning beyond just another day to sleep in, or go to the mall, but to try to find a way to combine Election day and Veterans’ day each year? After all isn’t Election day a very real example of as well as a manifestation of the efforts those veterans so unselfishly served our country for?

That is a very good idea.

Just to add my $0.02 as well.......

While I assume getting Veterans' Day off would not be just another day off from school but a day added to either the front, back, or someplace during the school year I must ask do our kids really need another day off from school to disrupt their studies in the middle of the school year esp in November?

As I look at the 2009 calendar I see Tuesday Nov 3rd is election day. At least in my town the public schools already have that day off. Then we a week later would have Veterans' Day Wednesday Nov 11th, if what is being proposed here were adopted. Then two weeks latter we have the Thanksgiving week........... With so many interruptions to the actual classroom during the month how does one get into any learning grove?

The federal court house in New Haven is on the Green - you can’t miss it - there are two buildings that are obviously courthouses, one municipal, one federal.

Thanks!

I was disturbed by how few of our newest citizens had anyone with them; as if it was no big deal.

Yet when Judge Droney asked if anyone had a camera including cell-phone camera, and would like to wait after the ceremony he would be happy to have a photograph taken with them handing them their certificate.

*EVERYONE* lined up - so it *is* a big deal to them; but we seem to take it for granted.

I would encourage anyone who hasn't ever seen it to do so, and for heavens sakes if you KNOW someone about to become a citizen take the time to go and bring a decent camera.
(You might get them a card and their first American Flag too.)

One thing for sure; the experience will counter any "we stink" thoughts anyone might have. If we did we wouldn't be attracting 600 - 900 new citizens a month to this state alone.

Lastly, Rep. Green is advancing a resolution that the General Assembly apologize for slavery and other wrongs done to black citizens.

Considering Connecticut's history on that subject is one helluva lot better than most states, maybe we should also "apologize" for sending our young men south to kick those Slave owning crackers asses during the Civil War.

While we're at we should "apologize" for John Brown and the pride so many have in his being a Connecticut native son.
The Torrington Town Seal is a graphic of the 1800 Brown home with the words" Birthplace of Abolitionist John Brown".

------------------------------------------

Speaking of bigotry; has anyone been to a Naturalization Ceremony?
I watched my friend Hajaj A. & 60 others become a US citizens last Friday.

Getting everyone all set, who's there, who's late etc takes a while so I was able to chat with several new Americans - it became obvious to me that we're systematically looting the brightest and best from virtually every other nation on the face of the earth.

It was a great experience.

The bill might be at the request of the DMV Legislative contact; they (the DMV) has been talking about this off and on for a few years.

That's fair. I don't mind bumping it up to eight, although eight would be a little more difficult for law enforcement officials to read (narrower numbers and letters), and also might require computer upgrades at the DMV and or in the towns. But, if the DMV is asking for this, I'm sure they've given this some thought.

I’m wondering if there’s a better use for our legislature’s time.

This bill should take -0- time and just as much effort.

Who knows anything about Domestic violence shelters? How long are they opened now? Perhaps there are a couple available 24/7? I don’t have enough info.

I believe that at their news conference they said there was only two shelters that were open 24/7 -- Hartford and New Britain.

They also said that Connecticut is only 1 of 5 other states that do not have 24/7 coverage.

License plates - I’m betting they just want more vanity plate options. There’s gotta be plenty of combinations available, especially with letters included in the 6 digit scheme. I tihnk there’s what… 1 million vehicles registered? Even if the combinations were only numeric, that’s 999,999 combinations.

With six digits, there are approximately 2.2 billion combinations. With seven digits, there are over 78 billion. With eight, there are over 2.8 trillion.
