Tell me, what’s so laughable about $8,000, because if you break it down, that’s almost $90/day, (way more than the $50/day a New Haven panhandler brings in), and it’s not as if fundraising was ever Jim Amann’s forte in life.

Give Jim a break. He’s still hoping to broker his delegates at next Spring’s Dem convention, and who knows, if you were Malloy or Bysiewicz, wouldn’t you want Amann as your running mate in the Lt. Gov. spot?

Then you certainly didn’t notice Don Williams and Chris Donovan legislating either then, correct? They can’t even come up with a budget that enough members in their own caucuses will approve let alone the rest of the legislature.

Where has the Gov. (and presumably her staff) been lately? No budget negotiations (that we know of) going on, and a paltry fund raising effort to date. IF she is running again, (and that is a BIG if), why give Malloy a running start? Is she that arrogant? I doubt anyone on her staff (or the Gov. herself) reads this blog, let alone posts here, but I’d love to know what their strategy is here. From the outside, it certainly doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

There is essentially no such thing as someone getting “a running start” under the taxpayer financing of campaigns system. Danny Maloy can qualify as early as he wants for the public funds and the Governor can qualify as late as she wants and they both will only be able to spend the same amount of money. The Governor will be able to EASILY raise her qualifying contributions. The system was set up to make it almost impossible for incumbents not to qualify for the government funds. For the life of me, I cannot fathom how that “doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. ” to you but hopefully you’ll now be able to comprehend it.

ctcenrist, I don’t read the newspapers much but I did indeed see that the Governor and the Democrat leaders of the legislature are in very active closed door budget meeting at the Governor’s residence so you’re clearly in the dark when you say “No budget negotiations (that we know of) going on.”

Pintsize: You keep telling yourself that if it helps you sleep better at night. Me, I know I didn’t get a single letter or call from her during the quarter (you may have noticed there was this thing called governing she was doing), so I look at it as $20,000 she raised without even trying.

FWIW I’ve gotten a couple letters. That said, she clearly isn’t trying very hard. Governor Rell should have little trouble raising enough to qualify for public financing if/when she decides to put some muscle into her finance operation.
