Dodd Not in McMahon’s League

by Heath · October 15th, 2009, 11:28 am · 11 Comments

U.S. Senator Chris Dodd, commenting on GOP Sen. candidate Linda McMahon’s purported willingness to spend $30 Million to unseat him:

“I haven’t spent that much in five races,” Dodd said in a telephone conference call with radio and newspaper reporters from Washington, D.C. “I don’t think there’s enough money to buy a Senate seat – even at the rate she’s talking about.”

Sen. Dodd, for his part, is suffering a bit of bad press this morning for being out-raised by former U.S. Rep. Rob Simmons.  The Dodd people are noting that between a busy legislative schedule and the Senator’s recovery from prostate cancer surgery, their fundraising ability was limited.

Their efforts will get a boost in the coming weeks when they host President Barack Obama on October 23 at the Stamford Hilton.  Tickets to the high profile event are selling at $1000/piece.

As the Grand Ballroom at the Hilton will hold roughly 900 people, plus the near-certain private reception and photo line with the President, the Dodd campaign could raise $1.5 million or better in one evening.

John Corzine had enough money, didn’t he? The Dems best chance in this one is to have the “Changer in Chief” offer him a job outside of Connecticut. Sometimes elected officials just where out their welcome. 26+ years you make can tick off a lot of people.

That being said I don’t think a woman who ran a company who openly “encouraged” their employees to take performance enhancing drugs, led half of them to illegal narcotic abuse and has had at least five former employees commit suicide, murder or died untimely deaths in the past five years alone, not to mention the objectifying of women, little people, foreigners and homosexuals over the years should be our next Senator. I prefer Simmons or Caligiuri. Schiff is useless, he never has even voted. Before civil service you should at least preform the most basic civic duty.

Speaking of McMahon… I hear that Susan Bibisi Healy, wife of CT GOP chair Chris Healy, has taken a 6 figure PR job with the McMahon campaign.

    One If–

Do you have a link? Or is that just some baseless accusation?

If something like that were true, wouldn’t Healy have to step down as Chairman?

I don’t hink I’ve ever enjoyed listening to Rush Limbaugh as much as today.

Poor wittle Rush was playing the victim, until he almost broke down in tears about getting booted from Dave Checketts NFL ownership bid.

    Do you have a link?

What, AS, is it that you don’t understand?

I said I HEARD that information…. you want a link to my ear??

This is the only link I have: http://ctlocalpolitics.net//2009/10/15/dodd-not-in-mcmahons-league/

And why would Healy have to step down? It’s his wife, not him.

I just thought it was interesting.

If that is true, it’s a monstrous conflict-of-interest and it removes Healy’s impartiality during what’s going to be one hell of a primary next spring.

Let’s take a step back. Imagine if, in 2007-’08, DNC Chair Howard Dean’s wife had taken a job with the Edwards campaign. The other campaigns would have been screaming, and rightfully so.

This isn’t a case of one politician endorsing another. It’s about process, and the need for those running the game to be above the fray. Please tell me, how on earth are Foley, Caligiuri, and Simmons going to expect fair treatment, when Chairman Healy’s wife is now working for a competing candidate?

Fortunately it’s not my conundrum. But I do look forward to hearing what the male candidates will have to say about this new relationship, if in fact your sources are correct.

Hey, “One If”, your rumor is confirmed via the Courant’s Capitol Watch and my buddy Rick Green! And they credit the comment section of CTLP, which is really, really cool.

Thanks for the best news of the month. Chris and Suzan Healy just plunged the CT GOP into a civil war!

O.M.G. I hope my buddy ACR (not the biggest McMahon fan) isn’t busy having a heart attack right about now. Check in to let me know you’re still ticking after hearing this news, okay?

Further evidence that this online forum needs to maintain its current form despite Genghis’ retirement, and when he recharges his batteries, he can come back. CTLP is part of the dialogue.

    Saraamerica…

No doubt ACR will find a way to defend Chairman Healy.

What really must frost him is the news about McMahon’s new Campaign Manager!!!

Dodd will be most effective helping his reelection cause by being an effective Senator. If he is able to get an effective health care bill passed and also reform the banking system in the next twelve months, I suspect he will be very hard to beat at the polls irregardless of all of the nonsense going on right now. The fact that there are five Republican candidates beating on each other for the nomination will also diminish the eventual survivor. Dodd has been more obviously effective in the past six months than he has been in the past decade. I would not count him out yet.
