According to @hartfordcourant, Simsbury First Selectwoman Mary Glassman will run for Governor:
In a move that many state Democrats say could dramatically change next year’s gubernatorial race, First Selectman Mary Glassman said Tuesday that she is filing papers to form an exploratory committee.
If you are standing anywhere near Susan Bysiewicz right now, beware of the potential for flying objects.
The entry of Glassman into the Governor’s race likely shakes up the Democratic field. In addition to the brass-knuckled Secretary of the State, Ned Lamont, Jim Amann, Sen. Gary LeBeau, former Stamford Mayor Dan Malloy, and Ridgefield First Selectman Rudy Marconi are assessing bids for the Democratic nomination.
Glassman started out as the Lt. Governor candidate with Stamford Mayor Dan Malloy in 2006. But on primary night, while Malloy lost narrowly to New Haven Mayor John DeStefano, Glassman won the Democratic LG nod and ran with DeStefano in the general election.

In the long term no one should make the mistake of underestimating Mary Glassman. She’s a pro’s pro.
In the short term, advantage Ned Lamont. We’ll need to see the polls a month from now, but my guess is this will put him in the lead over Bysie.
Luckily the thresholds are high, or Dems would be looking at a true 7-way primary. But what a convention this could be. Will Susie lend support to Malloy to get him his 15%, just so he can keep cutting into Ned’s Fairfield County base? Will the deal be a spot on the ticket as Lt. Governor, in exchange for Dan playing attack dog? (That’s just a for instance. Who knows how the allegiances will break…)
Fun, fun, fun. And Glassman would make an awesome governor.
I hear a collective yawn coming over CT and settling on the swing voters.
Donkeydonk got his wish–a 3rd stringer to call his own.
An interesting, perhaps novel strategy: losing in 2006 in a bid to become Lt Governor, but outshining her lackluster running-mate John DeStefano, and then coming back four years later to try for the the top job. Perhaps someone more familiar with the intricacies of the Democrats’ “strategizing” can help those of us who are puzzled by this one.
(And yes I read AndersonScooper’s breathless post above.)
