That, alas, is the last hockey metaphor I get to write about the race in the 4th. Maura at MLN has the story:
A few weeks after having dinner with local party chairs and less than a week after former Rangers goalie Mike Richter was introduced to the Democratic Congressional caucus in DC, Richter has made calls to key players in the the district today to say he has decided not to challenge Shays next year.
[...]
On that note, Jim Himes has done an impressive job of beginning to lay thee cornerstones of his campaign against Shays. In the past two weeks, Himes has published great op-ed pieces against Shays in the Greenwich Citizen and two days ago in the The Advocate (Stamford and Norwalk) and Greenwich Time.
The appeal of Richter as a celebrity candidate seems to have been short-lived. Himes, from all reports, has been doing a good job of getting out there and talking to Democrats, and seems like a much more viable candidate. Whether he’s any match for Shays, however, remains to be seen.

If Jim Himes is smart enough not to beat up on our soldiers moms and thinks scientists should report what their scientific research shows he’ll be an improvment over an obviously batshit crazy(Did you see him on election night) Shays.
Forget election night. Did you see him attack and humiliate the four widows of the American contractors killed, burned, and hung from the bridge in Falujah? He accused them of using their appearance at the committee hearing to get money from Blackwater. Never mind that the contractors were lied to, sent out without the safety equipment and weapons they were promised.
And did you see Shays this week browbeating the NASA specialist on global warming? Shays insinuated that he was a lier and tried to humiliate him. Apparently the fact that the Bush administration was employing its political apparatchiks to twist the findings of government scientists wasn’t a problem for Shays. Apparently, having spent so long as a member of the Rush Limbaugh-Ann Coulter-Dick Cheney Republican Party means that in Shays’s book justice means attacking the victim.
Richter, we never knew ya.
Viva Senor Himes!
Genghis I think you have 24 hours left to use hockey metaphors. Better use this thread to get them out of your system.
Shays wins 60-40. Next!
