She’s coming here today! To Hartford and Bridgeport!
…
Eh.
Update: Oh, never mind. She canceled almost as soon as I posted this. So, no Laura Bush excitement today.

wtic 1080 reports she has cancelled!
Hooray!
somehow the words “horray” and laura bush, professional enabler do NOT belong together…
I have nothing against her… although I really wish that news stories didn’t always mention that she was a librarian. That’s kind of embarrassing.
Considering the weather and travel conditions especially in the western part of CT, it was wise to cancel the trip. I don’t know why anyone would have a problem with Laura Bush. It is clear that George W. governs as he see fit. We elected him. What would expect Laura to do trash her husband on things that she disagrees with him on? Give her a break. I’ve been happy over the last few days reading posts that have reflected intelligent discussion of issues rather than the trash and burn of people. I know Laura is a public figure but be fair. She certainly has done nothing to discredit the incrediably noble, defenders of our freedoms — no not our members of the armed forces, but your local librarians.

What’s wrong with librarians?
Let me clarify: I’m a librarian, and a lot of librarians find it a bit… awkward… to share a profession with her.
Laura Bush: Teenaged Driving Menace Who Committed Manslaughter

Giving librarians everywhere a bad name.
I think she is still coming to Bridgeport actually.
Ted Kennedy: 37 Year Old Drunk Who Committed Manslaughter

Giving drunks everywhere a bad name.
Ken, what the hell was the point of posting that?
Seriously– are you drunk?
Here we go again;;;;Laura was never charged with anything as far as the KK link says and Kennedy entered a plea of guilty to a charge of leaving the scene of an accident after causing injury. It’s over!!for me anyway.
Kenny:
Considering what you went through and that your are a “journalist”, I think you would be a bit more judicious in labeling someone a criminal.
Genghis: what has Laura done to embarass your profession?
I guess the weather is making everybody cranky leading to all the cheap shots.
Alright, there should have been a question mark at the end of it. Apologies. Was it not fair? Maybe so, maybe not. Sometimes sarcasm doesn’t come across in posts. How many people actually knew that about Laura Bush?
As for embarrassing librarians, please allow me to redeem myself with this one:
In January 2003, Laura Bush invited poets to the White House to celebrate “Poetry and the American Voice.” When pacifist poet Sam Hamill decided to read an anti-war poem, and invited other poets to do so, Laura Bush canceled the event.

From Feb. 5, 2003: This reading has been organized in response to Laura Bush’s decision to cancel the symposium “Poetry and The American Voice” scheduled to take place February 12th at 1 p.m. because several writers planned to read anti-war poems.

Beyond that, Mark Twain, whose house she planned on visiting, was a member of the Anti-Imperialists League. Do you think he, or Harriet Beecher Stowe, would have welcomed her to Nook Farm?

Yes.

I would have hoped so. Why wouldn’t she have? Because she had a different viewpoint? Wow, is the pot calling the kettle black on this one!
