NLDC Meets, Gets Blogged

by Genghis Conn · May 4th, 2007, 4:28 pm · 21 Comments

For those interested in what’s happening with the much maligned New London Development Corporation (those behind the Fort Trumbull eminent domain disaster), New London Calling has a great post up chronicling their latest meeting. Really interesting stuff.

    GC,

I think a public explanation as to the Editing of posts that went on today is owed to the readers of this blog.

I’m not saying moderators can’t or shouldn’t remove posts they view as breaking the rules but editing them is certainly WAY WAY outside the bounds of blog etiquette.

If you can’t assure that this will NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN I’m going to insist you delete EVERY POST I”VE EVER MADE ON THIS BLOG.

Without an explanation,an admission from the person who did it they now realize it was wrong and a statement from you their power to edit comments has been removed this blog can no longer be considered a safe place to post comments.

What happened today threatens the very existence of this blog and as the blogs owner it is totaly your responsibility.

    Genghis–

If you want to know what kind of posts you should be removing, reference #2 above. No attempt to make a point, just exceedingly personal baiting and derision. (and I understand the intended victim is CTKeith, but when you let it go……)

    NUTTY,

If I could change just one or two words in any number of your comments I could make others think you are a commie,a nazi or anything else I wanted to.

Someone who was so reckless with the powers GC handed them as to abuse them like they did today should not and can not be trusted with them in the future.

I don’t know whether it was a Dem or a Repub who abused them and don’t care. That person should NOT have the keys to this site and this place will be unsafe until those keys are handed back.

Yes, blog etiquette is important to maintain. LMAO

  • 5 TrueBlueCT // May 4, 2007 at 7:04 pm ·

    CTKeith–

How many other blogs do you know where a front-pager can edit a poster’s comments? (and does so anonymously without even pointing out that an edit was made?)

But don’t expect either Disgruntled or Sean to get banned. It’s near impossible for Genghis to find a Republican blogger worthy of the front page.

P.S. Do you think it was Sean, or Disgruntled Republican. My guess is that it was the youngster,….

  • 6 nutmeg_constitution // May 4, 2007 at 7:09 pm ·

    Or maybe CGG …

  • 7 lamontcranston // May 4, 2007 at 7:14 pm ·

Hold on a sec, Sean is still a front-pager here? I never thought this day would come, but, I agree with Keith. If there is something wrong with a post, then the whole post should be deleted not edited. But I have thought for a while now and have mentioned it before that the front-pagers on this blog have to much power to do stuff like this.

  • 8 ctkeith // May 4, 2007 at 7:17 pm ·

I don’t give a shit who it was!! I want that person to have his or her keys TAKEN AWAY NOW.

    nutty’s got a point,

My comments aren’t always well thought out,are often grammatically incorrect, usualy contain spelling errors and often PISS PEOPLE OFF but THEY”RE F*#ING MINE AND I OWN THEM AND STAND BY THEM!!

After today I’m not certain if any of my previous comments have been edited to change the meaning of what I said but I do know someone with keys to this place saw nothing wrong with doing just that to another commenter and that SUCKS.

  • 9 nutmeg_constitution // May 4, 2007 at 7:18 pm ·

There used to be a little section to the right where all of the front-pagers were listed. But then they got rid of the “conservative” front-pagers … and then they added Sean … maybe that little section was never a part of this new system that started in January …

One thing’s for sure: whoever the conservative front-pagers are, they are extremely inactive … seems like they only show up about one day per month … if that …

  • 10 nutmeg_constitution // May 4, 2007 at 7:20 pm ·

Wow, now I’m thinking that ctkeith is probably a great guy and one of those right-wing conspiracy jerks has been editing all of his posts to make him sound like an insane commie …

  • 11 ctkeith // May 4, 2007 at 7:23 pm ·

Were any of Rep Lawlors Comments “EDITED”.

Are you certain they weren’t GC?

Do you get a copy of all edits,GC?

I’m totaly willing to own MY OWN WORDS but we all know now that editing comments is in WAY TO MANY HANDS on this blog.

Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper and see if it gets written in the paper exactly as you prepared it …

  • 13 ctkeith // May 4, 2007 at 7:30 pm ·

    Nutty,

I have and any reputable newspaper gives you the opportunity to read the edited version and approve it BEFORE they print it.

  • 14 Genghis Conn // May 4, 2007 at 7:33 pm ·

    Calm yourselves, please.

I apologize for the editing of a comment here today. It’s our policy to simply delete offensive comments and not to edit them. There was a misunderstanding about that–which I take responsibility for–and I’ve made certain to restate this to all the moderators.

To my knowledge, no other comments have been edited in this way. Again, apologies for the misstep, and I can assure you it won’t happen again.

  • 15 nutmeg_constitution // May 4, 2007 at 7:35 pm ·

Well, I guess that I’ve written to newspapers that are not reputable …

  • 16 lamontcranston // May 4, 2007 at 7:36 pm ·

Any chance you will tell us who was doing all the editing

  • 17 Genghis Conn // May 4, 2007 at 7:50 pm ·

Also, I do receive email copies of most comments posted, so I have records of pretty much everything said. If you ever have a question about a comment, send me an email and I’ll try to dig up the original for you.

BTW most blogs do work like this. All Blogspot (Blogger) and WordPress blogs work this way (any administrator can change any comment), and I wouldn’t be surprised if Scoop and other blogging platforms allow admins to do the same.

Still, it’s obviously not a good thing and I don’t want it happening here. It’s bad netiquette and undermines the point of having honest discussion.

It shouldn’t have happened here and I’ve made that clear to all moderators. It is NOT our policy to edit comments.

  • 18 ctkeith // May 4, 2007 at 7:58 pm ·

    GC,

The power to Edit comments needs to be taken out of All hands. If thats not possible then only you should maitain that power so if it happens there is only one person to blame.

I’m not comfortable and I don’t think others should be if what we write here can be changed by more than one person.

No politician, never mind blogger, in his right mind would come back here until this is fixed.

As of right now commenters here aren’t even aware of who and how many moderators there are.If they all have this extraordinary ability to go back and change what we wrote 6 months a year or even more ago is that a good idea?

Are you notified in an email or some other way if one of these 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 78….people edit a comment?

  • 19 Genghis Conn // May 4, 2007 at 8:09 pm ·

Unfortunately, that seems to be one of those powers that comes with the ability to delete comments. It’s a WordPress issue.

However, I will look into it and see if it can be done. I agree that comment editing shouldn’t happen here. However, this is the first time in over two years that it has, and probably because I never made it clear to moderators that it shouldn’t.

And no, I don’t know if a comment has been changed.

I do understand why you’re upset, and I’m doing everything I can do fix the situation.

The list of moderators is on the “About” page, FYI.

  • 20 nutmeg_constitution // May 4, 2007 at 8:26 pm ·

Ah, I see the list of moderators now … thanks GC

  • 21 ctkeith // May 4, 2007 at 8:30 pm ·

    A couple of things,

I’d feel much better if the person who did the editing came here, admitted his or her mistake and apologized for it.

Believe it or not I’d be more comfortable if NUTMEG COSTITUTION or Al were moderators over SEAN and D.R.

Neither Sean nor D.R. has held up there end as a Contributor or a Moderator and certainly hasn’t spent the time here to build up enough good will for even the righties to be comfortable with them holding editing powers.
