Real Hartford posted the crime numbers for Hartford last week. A lot of the numbers for this year seem a bit lower than last year. Kerri, the blogger, had the following rumination:
Gilford [New Hampshire] is a small town, [but] the police log for May 8-14, 2007 was published. They actually printed and broke down what the 231 calls to the police were for. Mostly, it was small town stuff (underage drinking), but they had their fair share of problems–assault, drugs, harassment, larceny, criminal mischief, domestic, and endangerment of youth. If all the smaller towns and suburbs were to publish every last criminal account, maybe Hartford’s reputation wouldn’t be so tarnished, and maybe any time Hartford’s own violence did make the news, people wouldn’t blame the victim by accusatorily asking what the victim was even doing in the city.
She makes a good point. There’s a perception that the suburbs are safe and crime-free, while the cities are dangerous, crime-ridden dumps. Most people who actually live in the cities will tell you that that isn’t necessarily true, but few seem to listen to them.
This perception is a big reason why many people don’t want to live in our cities. I’ve also heard that people don’t want to live in Hartford because they don’t think there’s anything to do there. Fortunately for them, Kerri has also compiled a list of awesome things about Hartford.

On the “wire”: Sources tell CBS News that Congressman William Jefferson (D-LA) has been indicted on more than a dozen counts involving public corruption. Jefferson has been the subject of a ongoing probe in which FBI agents allegedly found more than 90-thousand dollars in cash in his freezer. The Justice Department is expected to unveil the charges later today… Developing…
Why is this relevant in CT? Because self-proclaimed (so far the proclomation has far exceeded the action) “swamp” sheriff Rep. Chris Murphy will presumably once again have to deal with ethical issues relating to one of his fellow Dems. Readers of this blog will recall that he recently gave Rep. Murtha a total pass for his transgressions of Congressional rules. Let’s see if Mr. Murphy has any comments on this one….
This is great news,
I hope the Son of a bitch gets life!!!

CTKeith, confirming that he is a racist.
I beleive post #3 by nutty no longer is a clear violation of the rules of this blog. I hope it is removed.
Enough with the name calling. Seriously, can’t any of you go five minutes without airing your darkest fears and biases about your political opponents?
Let’s see ctkieth says he hopes the son-of-a-bitch, a Democrat called out by conncon in #1, gets life and he’s a racist????
keith isn’t being an equal opportunity hater.
He wished death on Deluca but only life for Jefferson… what a partisan.
stop it architect; Keith wished that Deluca got a long jail sentence and that he died there. More than one state prosecutoor and judge has said no less.
GC: Were you referring to my post or the others that followed?

Archie,
If they both shared a cell and both died in jail I wouldn’t lose a wink of sleep over it.I HATE CORRUPT ION and those who perpetrate it and believe it or not I hate it more when it’s done by someone on my side of the aisle.
Thats the difference between me and you.You excuse corruption or try to bring up 30 yr old cases and make believe thats relevent to whats happening today.
I don’t expect a Goddam thing from Sports figures and teach my kids not to think of them as rolemodels.
I DO expect decency out of those Given a PUBLIC TRUST and think if that trust is broken the Punishment should be VERY VERY SEVERE!
I worked at a Transfer station and for 40 hrs a week for 5 yrs looked at your garbage and was offered bribes hundreds of times and never took a dime.Deluca never had to smell the stink of garbage and got to live pretty F-ing high on the backs of guys like me.The least he could have done was be as honorable as me and the guys working next to me who took care of the Garbage.
He failed even that test.
Jesus Christ lighten up everyone. Have you ever heard of sarcasm?

1) The William Jefferson case is not “30 years old.”
2) Please cite for me where I “excuse corruption.”

NOt as far as I am concerned but I know you often make that argument, arch.

Boehner to call for ethics review of Jefferson
House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) will ask the ethics committee to review the federal indictment filed Monday against Rep. William Jefferson (D-La.) in order to seek his expulsion from Congress.
Boehner will offer a priviledged resolution on the House floor as early as Tuesday calling for the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct to review the 94-page investigation filed against Jefferson Monday, according to the Republican leader’s office.
The Justice Department indictmented the Louisiana Democrat Monday on federal charges of racketeering, soliciting bribes and money laundering.
Boehner’s resolution is intended to “jump start” a previous investigation into Jefferson’s alleged misdeeds that expired last year.

He wants him to die. Plain and simple, twist it all you want, qualify it all you want.

ARCHIE,
Everyones gonna die.I just figured looking at the old coot a 10 yr sentence would mean he’d die in prison and that would be a deserving end for the miserable old crook.
Anyway,I wonder if the next time “Louie the Lash” lectures us about morality like he did during the Same sex Marriage debate if that same Preist is going to be willing to stand next to the convicted thug to boolster his Moral authority like he did this session.
That’s sweet, Keith.
Guess you are just mean-spirited to the core.
Mean Spirited is telling 2 people who love each other their relationship isn’t as precious as yours.Mean Spirited is Selling your public office to Mobsters and Mean spirited is the Definition of conservitisms face today.
A man dieing in Jail and without his freedom because he sold a public trust,Thats Justice.
I can give you plenty of examples…. but the other bloggers here are well aware of what I am speaking of and you will simply continue anyway.

Keep talking keith, dig your own grave.
Ask any outside observer to interpret what you meant when you posted that remark, and they would say you actively wanted him to die – you didn’t say that as a consequence of his old age, he might happen to die in prison. Let’s take a flashback at what you said:
DeLuca should die in jail and the only reason he and Rowland are free today is because theres an R after every Federal Prosecutors name.
“DELUCA SHOULD DIE IN JAIL..” a despicable remark to make about any person… Republican, Democrat…. HUMAN.
OK, does anyone have comments on the actual TOPIC of this posting? As a Hartford resident, I was really interested in Kerri’s post on her blog (which is great, by the way), and I absolutely agree that Hartford is not as dangerous as the public perception.
THANK you, Gems. I’ve been a big fan of Kerri’s work, and she makes great points about Hartford.
