Thompson Ahead in National Poll

by Genghis Conn · June 26th, 2007, 11:44 am · 14 Comments

Okay, this is becoming less and less Connecticut related, but Fred Thompson, who we saw at the Prescott Bush dinner, is now ahead of Rudy Giuliani in a new Rasmussen Poll: 27%-23%. Now that’s pretty interesting–especially because Thompson has basically done nothing to get that far except exist, and be in the news.

I guess all that it really shows is that there’s obviously still the possibility of big swings in the presidential race. So Dodd can take heart: one minute you could be at *, and the next minute, up to 15%! Hey, it could happen. Richardson, for example, seems to be doing just that.

Oh, and in case it wasn’t clear, there is not much going on in Connecticut today.

Blah, blah, blah…family values…blah, blah, blah…trophy wife…blah, blah, blah…I pray that Fred Thompson is the GOP’s candidate in ‘08!…blah, blah, blah…Law and Order.

Just wanted to get that out of the way and save him the trouble.

How about the fact that the $4.4 billion needed to fund the border protection in the amnesty bill is going to come from (drum roll) the fines that the illegal immigrants are going to pay!!!

Here’s a legitimate question: what if they don’t decide to all of a sudden start playing by the rules and pay the fines? Who would make up the shortfall?

Oh, that’s right! Of course, it’s the American Taxpayer!!!

See, in the interim, the money will be “borrowed” from the U.S. Treasury while the illegals get out their checkbooks and write those checks to Uncle Sam for the fines and Z Visas! Great plan!!!

Chris Dodd is no Fred Thompson/

    My 2 cents.

No, he isn’t. But he might be a Richardson. Or, perhaps, he COULD have been Richardson…

Dodd just has no buzz. That is his problem.

According to my cousin, on Facebook, in their “Election 08″ voting poll that you can put in your profile, Mike Gravel garners more votes than Dodd, who isn’t even listed in the standings (Top 8).

Dodd needs to hire Gravel’s ad guy. THEN he’ll start getting the press!

Huh. I didn’t realize that was even a smiley option. 8). Neat.

Dodd, unfortunately, has no natural following. He’s not making enough noise to be the candidate of the far left, he’s not a fresh face, he doesn’t appeal to any specific minority group, he doesn’t have any particularly impressive experiences outside of government. His policies alone won’t get him across the finish line unless he’s willing to truly, truly differentiate himself, and to do that he’d have to move dramatically to the left, and do it with serious noise. Sorry to say, but they might as well just insert [generic Senator] under his profile when they introduce him.

He is however the candidate with the starkest contrast between hair and eyebrow color…so at least he’s got that going :)

They’d just raise tobacco taxes again, didn’t you know that?

Thank heavens; Rudy’s stance of the 2nd Ammendment makes him a poor excuse for a Republican.

Can the poster explain how a national poll means anything significant when we as a country don’t vote for president with a nationwide election but we use the electoral college for each state?

I guess you’re right, G-Buryman. Your man Gore won the popular vote in 2004 and all that got him was an Academy Award nomination…
