Amann Defends Session

by Genghis Conn · July 6th, 2007, 7:34 am · 21 Comments

Speaker Amann on Democrats who think that not much progress was made during the session:

“They must be … brain-dead,” Amann said in an interview this week, punctuating the middle of that sentence with a qualifier that can’t be printed here.

Also:

“I’d like to know what session they were in,” Amann said. “You can go on and on about the victories.” (Mann)

I’d like to know what planet Amann is on. Wow! The article, by the excellent Ted Mann, is well worth a read.

Come on Touc. You short change Jodi every chance you get, putting down her political abilities. Unfortunately, the fact stands out that Jimmy and Donnie were outmaneuvered at every turn by Jodi and Larry Cafero. Fighting 44!!!

Perhaps the Speaker did not fully appreciate the comments made in the last House Democratic caucus about the lack of communication - especially as it related to the budget and tax plans. I do have a different opinion on whether what the caucus wanted at the beginning of the session was what we acheived at its end - especially on health care and energy. Yes, we took action on those items, but their content did not fully express the intentions of the majority of the caucus.

DC: the Q-Pol brought Rell around; Cafero is as relevant as juicy juice to state politics; McKinney stepped into the room and got Rell to back off on capping muni taxes when she couldn’t even stay below the state spending cap along with a few other things and thereby got a budget as bad as it is.

“One thing I will say about Healy, he is damn good at his job,” gushed Melissa Ryan, a blogger on the left-leaning Connecticut Local Politics and member of the Democratic Town Committee in Fairfield.

    Toucan,
I’ll grant you Rell is a poster child for mediocrity and both Amann and williams are capable of meeting that standard. However they first have to get nominated, and, given the apparent discontent by a seemigly large number of Democrats, I was interested in the impact on their chances for the nomination.

I’d love to know whose fault you think that was.. Rell? The Republicans?

We’ve heard the Speaker and Sen Looney say that in the past week.

JM: slim and slimmer would be my guess but stuff in this state never ceases to amaze me —-

Amann’s failure is driving him more and more batty.

Extra amusement points because this one comes a month after session ended.

His blowhard blatherings could be taken as “heat of the moment” stuff back then but now?

It’s clear that yes CGG, the man’s brain is busted. Call a repair shop (and for a new speaker)

Yes toucan, you are of course correct. I sincerely hope that you and your Democrat kin continue to think this way. The “Super-Majority”, as effective as that has been, will be a one-term experiment.

Maybe Amann should ask Comptroller Wyman about this past session….It seems from her comments in her recent press release he may think she is brain dead too!!!!! And she is a member of his own party!!!!!!

This guy really is a joke!!!!!!!!

Jimmy is no joke. He’s running for Governor next cycle.

Check out his latest campaign video.

Blame or give credit to anyone you want, but this Legislature’s spending habits are out of control, and these goons have us on a path to financial ruin. What we need in Hartford are adults capable of saying “no” when asked for yet more tax dollars to fund social programs. That’s not to say many of these programs are not well intended, but the fact is that we can’t afford everything, so we’ll have to make some tough choices. If Paulie Walnuts and his crew aren’t able to contain themselves (and they obviously aren’t), let’s boot them all out. Enough with the class warfare.

Just as an FYI I never actually spoke with Rick Green. He pulled the quote from the comments section. That’s fine but I wouldn’t characterize my remarks as gushing. :)
