Senate Will Create a Committee to Investigate DeLuca

by CGG · August 1st, 2007, 3:23 pm · 18 Comments

From the Courant:

The state Senate will form a bipartisan committee to investigate and possibly discipline former Senate Republican leader Louis DeLuca following his guilty plea for conspiring to threaten his granddaughter’s husband, top senators announced this afternoon.

The six-member committee, composed of three Democrats and three Republicans, will be named within the next two weeks, and the full Senate could vote in November on whether to reprimand, censure or expel DeLuca. The committee could also decide to take no action following a series of public hearings.

Sadly I don’t have more time to write more. It’s been a crazy day. But, kudos to both Williams and McKinney for being able to work together on this.

What a waste. There is nothing to investigate. The arrest warrant says it all. DeLuca should take his pension and retiree healthcare benies and split.

Well, maybe the committee could develop a process that would be applied in the future to other legislative miscreants. My guess is that the committe’s attention will be narrowly focused; some things you just don’t want to know.

Term limits right tocan? At least then you’d have a different set of crooks every so often.

  • 4 John R. McCommas // Aug 1, 2007 at 4:23 pm ·

Why wasn’t there an investigation into Jefferson Davis? He served out almost his entire term before he got that sweetheart deal from that cream puff prosecutor.

He did something a lot worse.

That said he should resign. Maybe he will take the hint when this silly committee is formed.

I met DeLuca once when he came up here to campaign for Ed Munster. And unlike RINO Rell he is a real Republican. We don’t have too many of those in this state but he screwed up bad. He is lucky not to be in jail.

His fellow Republican senators need to take him aside. With the town elections coming up it should be easy to schedule a special election on the same day as regular voting.

Let me preface these remarks by saying I do think this committee should be formed.

However, as Mr. McCommas mentions… never a committee for Davis. Or Ernie Newton. Or Donnie Sellers, Edwin Garcia, Barnaby Horton, etc. etc etc.

Cue music) Ctlocalpoltics presents “Real Men of Genius”*

You’re sitting around reviewing your navel hair when suddenly, you see it: a post about Lou DeLuca.

“Jumpin’ Jehosephat,” sez you. “All those clever nicknames and witty puns about DeLuca that I’ve worn out more than a pair of sandals from high school: I get to use them again!!”

Might have to actually go somewhere in the next couple of days?

Not to worry, you’ve got a mobile Internet Connection. You’ll be able to blog from the Himalayas if you must. And unlike in real life, people in cyberspace actually care about what you think.

So crack open a beverage Mr. Wireless-But-Tireless, no phone line can hold you back. Just be sure and post something about using an environmentally friendly crucifix for DeLuca so people will know YOU are politically correct.

    * = to get the ‘flavor’ for a ‘Real Men of Genius’ post, visit youtube and use it as a search term.

Kabong,…you are quickly becoming the poor man’s Dennis Miller of ctlocalpolitics (your reference library slightly inferior to his, but hey who’s isn’t) however,…..all I see are Republicans mentioning A.) good idea investigating or B.) He should step down voluntarily

I see a mouse is sniffing

I kind of meant the Dennis Miller thing as a compliment. To me though on this issue I’ve always agreed with Toucan, this is really a nothing story if the man already admitted what he did. What else is there to investigate? His caucus should gently and politely show him the door.

I’m also with you on this and hate the corny nicknames ppl here come up with for politicians like crazy shayzee or louie the lash or smurphy murphy or whatever. It’s just corny.

    Twice in as many weeks?!!!

Stop it already, you’re making me like you again.

The thing about Deluca and politics in CT however is this. I think there are really only two groups of people who want to see him go. Strategically smart Republicans, and very very idealistically driven liberals. The people who want him to stay are strategically smart Democrats and very very idealistically driven conservatives.

Meanwhile the majority of independents are going “who, what, where? Keep it down, the ball game’s on.”

As I said from the day this “story” broke, thanks for your service Sen. DeLuca. But the coach wants to see you in his office, and you should bring your playbook with you.

    Will he make the HOF?

Davis resigned on the day he plead guilty. Newton resigned before he plead guilty. Those two were still being investigated by state and federal authorities while they were in office. DeLuca has already plead guilty and his case has been disposed, but I think we all have a hunch that there’s other objectionable conduct here. Yet, he’s not resigning and I think we need to know more about what went on. Ergo, committee.

The first Republican senator has come forward calling for DeLuca to resign, according to the courant.

I’d be shocked if DeLuca didnt resign before the hearings start
