Global warming, apparently.
Ron Paul is still running for President!
And apparently, Dr. Paul along with the other 8 GOP candidates (Gilmore is out) will be on the Stephanopolous show this Sunday for 90minutes.

I don’t see the time listed, but presume it’s during the regular morning timeslot.
anyone know the start time of the debate? (to be held in Iowa… Ames straw poll is next weekend, I think)
3 strikes rally
Wed 8/15/07 @ Bartlem Park at 7pm. (can park at bartlem park or across the street at the high shool – 525 S. Main Street, Cheshire 06410)
John Kerry was once considered a GOP prospect. he even said had he voted in 1968, he’d vote for Nixon. Assuming this doc is authentic!

I’m not good for much except Immigration news. So here’s some of that.
2 Kids grabbed up in an ICE raid may finally melt enough hearts in Congress to get a little reform. Probably not. And although they haven’t seen Columbia since they were 2 years old I am willing to bet they will become intimately familiar with the country soon.

Especially when the anti immigration right is doing this:

Funny thing is. Passing the DREAM act would in fact negate the need for that law Gov. Rell Vetoed a few weeks ago.
Also, not entirely Immigration Law related but since the laws were used as artillery in this little skirmish the Everyday Republican is reporting that the Dems have been trying to deny the Repubs their due process on the floor and that a walkout and shenaniganry ensued last night.
Here: http://ctgop.blogspot.com/2007/08/tale-of-tape-democrats-ignore-democracy.html
and here: http://ctgop.blogspot.com/2007/08/house-in-chaos-over-illegal-immigration.html
However the other side of the argument is that the Repubs have been throwing everything they can at the Dems to try and trip up procedure and ruin an on time and complete end to the legislative session: as espoused by this fellow here:

I’d be interested in anyone having any insight into this.
Hello from YearlyKos! I’ve had a great couple of days here so far. Lots of panels about blogging at the state and local level. Last night Dean gave a speech and this morning General Wesley Clark addressed the convention. Lots of faces from CT are here too. More later if I have time.

Excuse me?
“anti immigration right “????
Most of the anti immigration nonsense seems to be coming out of the unionized left.
Bush had it right; while a few cracker Republicans didn’t; most of the opposition was from the red neck left.
Actually if you follow the links it goes to a couple of stories about a new all enforcement bill proposed by Senators Kyle and Graham. Both Republicans. And although I may not have been clear and I apologize for that; this bill has been created and sponsored by the anti immigration right.
That said, while I recognize that the recent immigration law reform failure was a bipartisan failure in that both Dems and Repubs had a hand in it’s defeat it was the ramping up of the Republican media machine that really swayed the public and that made a huge difference.
The Democrats don’t have the sway in the media or the party cohesion to pull anything like that off. As evidenced by the bills defeat. If the Democrats could have managed to make all party members vote for the reform package the way Republicans in the past have joined ranks they would have easily passed the measure as many pro-business Repubs were also supporting reform.
>>The Democrats don’t have the sway in the media
What???
Save for Fox News, the Dems control the media with a iron fist that even Stalin would envy.

Neither party “controls” the media. I’d say that the media has more power over the parties than vice versa. $ and ratings control the media.
Almost all of the media strongly prefers Dems over Republicans …

Really? Are you including Fox News? And Rush Limbaugh and his cronies on right-wing radio? And Glen Beck, whose right-wing rants fill two hours every night at CNN? Or the other CNN guy Lou Dobbs who rants every night that Mexicans should be kicked out of the country? Or just about every other anchor and pundit on network and cable television? Just who are you saying is in favor of Democrats?
Are you saying Hartford Courant’s David Lightman favors Democrats? Have you read anything the guy has written? How about the New York Times’ Jennifer Medina, who definitively stated last year that Joe Lieberman had never used the phrase, “stay the course,” when, of course, he had on numerous occasions. Are you saying that Greenwich Time favors Democrats? Ever read that paper? Or how ’bout Conn Post, whose political guy Peter Urban just wrote that Lieberman had been “independently elected as a Democrat.”
The media is packed with conservatives. Just look at the facts for once!
>>Or the other CNN guy Lou Dobbs who rants every night that Mexicans should be kicked out of ………..
Considering Bush’s take on the same issue; a rather leftist perspective.
It’s kind of like the George Carlin quote: “Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?” The left thinks the media leans right, and the right thinks the media leans left.
Personally, I think the media is often perceived as left leaning due lack of clear distinction between factual news reporting and opinion — often labeled “analysis.” Many journalists assume their worldview is obviously correct, and this creeps into their reporting: ‘I read liberal people. And they don’t even know they’re liberal.’
In a related note, Laurence Cohen has a good piece on how inadequate the left/right labels are: Beyond The Lockstep Of Left, Right, Left
Speaking of … What do Bob Walsh and Rick Torres (Caruso supporters) have in common? Answer the City of Bridgeport had to sue both of them for non payment of WPCA taxes. Check out the public records for anyone who doesn’t believe. Councilman Walsh was given a summons yesterday. The sum of $1,316.00 is owed by Walsh as of July 30, 2007. Torres has had to be sued many times in order to get him to pay his bills. As of June 29th Torres owed $1,083.00. These had to have been accumulated over several years.
Now perhaps if people paid the money they owed to the city, our property taxes would be lower and maybe the City could put money towards things like Pleasure Beach. But the bigger mystery to me is why Caruso (who doesn’t pay property tax because he rents) surrounds himself with and makes deals with deadbeats. Bob Walsh thinks he has got the position of head of OPM all sewn up if Caruso wins. What other deadbeats are going to be placed where? You can’t make this stuff up.
