Whatever Happened To…?

Weirdly, I just can’t get away from the 2006 primary this week, even when I try.

Remember Mary Glassman, running mate of Dan Malloy and later John DeStefano, who pwnd the hapless Scott Slifka in the Lt. Governor’s race last year? She’s making a return to politics by running for the job she held from 1991-99: First Selectman of Simsbury. The Simsbury Post has the story, if you’re interested.

Glassman is running against incumbent Tom Vincent (R) and independent John Romano.

Glassman was touted as someone to watch after her convincing win last year, and it’s very interesting to see her return to politics. She can hardly be blamed for DeStefano’s humiliating loss–which I suspect would have been much narrower had the ticket been Glassman/DeStefano instead of the other way around.

Glassman stepped down as mayor of Simsbury to run for the Board of Finance. She lost! She and DeStefano then lost Simsbury 62-38 in ‘06, the same ratio the ticket lost by statewide! This seems like a risky move given her last two elections in Simsbury! Isn’t she basically done for if she loses a third election in her town?

“Expanding rail service – and particularly service to Penn Station – has been one of my top transportation goals over the past three years,” Governor Rell said. “Service to Penn Station would be a huge boost with new trains, ample seats and new service to Manhattan and the financial district.”

Bombadier did a study, Carpenter made a photo copy of it, and Rell put out a press release. Somebody should tell these cluless clowns that the train service they have to Grand Central sucks now and it needs to be fixed first. It isn’t like nobody has been saying it for years either.

Are you insane? Nobody in the state knew or knows who Glassman is…..she could neverbe on top of the ticket and if she had it woul dhave been Rell getting 99 percent of the vote….

Rell I am sad to say would have beaten just about anybody.

I am not familiar with this person at all. Obviously she did not leave any impression on my and I voted for that ticket.

“On me” I should have said.

Why states don’t “piggyback” more often on things like train orders is beyond me.
