Remember Abe Giles, of parking lot scandal fame? Apparently the city of Hartford paid $10,000 to cart away some trash from a warehouse for him. Isn’t that nice of them? Better yet, it happened several months before he won a city contract to store things at that warehouse.
City records show that in February and March, Dainty Rubbish Service Inc. hauled away 18 full-size Dumpsters from a North End warehouse owned by Abraham L. Giles. The work was done several months before Giles won a city contract that called for bidders to make storage space available.
Alex Marcellino, a public works official who worked with Giles at the request of the mayor, said the city paid Dainty’s bills four months ago as the result of a “misunderstanding.” He said Monday that the city was now asking Giles for reimbursement. (Cohen, et. al.)
A “misunderstanding.” They don’t seriously expect us to swallow that, do they?
Then again, I guess it could all have been a big misunderstanding. Just like when the city used a contractor who wasn’t registered with the state to do streetscape work, and who had also been working on the mayor’s house without getting paid for a long time. And just like when someone gave Abe Giles $100k so that he’d sell the city a parking lot. Lots of misunderstandings and mistakes in Hartford these days.

Let’s face it, it’s time to dissolve Hartford. Carve out the Capitol and associated buildings (set it up like DC) and then carve up the rest and assign a slice to West Hartford, Newington, Wethersfield, Glastonbury, East Hartford, Windsor and Bloomfield. Take all of the state money pouring into Hartford and send it pro-rated to the other towns. We’ll save money and the people in the city.
It doesn’t really matter as long as it remains a one-party town. This would go the same for any town/municipality dominated by the Republican party.
As long as Hartford voters are given no real choices for leadership, but simply variations of the same Democratic machine candidates, the results will largely be the same, no matter the outcome of the election.
Consider this the official call from one Liebercrat that Perez has got to go.
i LOVED the giant eddie perez sign right in front of the warehouse. all the newscasts prominantly featured it.
i LOVED watching eddie being interviewed yesterday. the man sure can dance. NOT WELL but he sure can. as a matter of fact, he didn’t even slow down, he just kept two-steppin’
