How many candidates have done this so far?

    None. I’m a little disappointed.

Give it a few days. We tend to get overwhelmed with these things all at once….

Republican First Selectman Candidate John Nelson today called on First Selectman Ken Flatto to publicly detail what action his campaign will take in dealing with a series of illegal contributions received from local developers, land use attorneys and other supporters. Nelson said the public deserves to know how the illegal donations will be handled and whether or not there have been any more illegal donations since June 30th.

The Flatto/Dougiello slate committee is in violation of state campaign laws for accepting several individual donations exceeding the maximum amount allowed by law.

“Either Mr. Flatto has been reckless in the operations of his campaign for re-election or he not leveling with the people of Fairfield,” Nelson said. “Regardless, I’m shocked at how dismissive Mr. Flatto is of the whole affair. The people of Fairfield have the right to expect their leaders to follow the laws of the State of Connecticut and the Town of Fairfield to the letter.”

In an apparent attempt to duck responsibility, Mr. Flatto stated in the September 19th edition of the Connecticut Post that the new law “doesn’t seem fair” and that “if someone were to pursue this, my guess is we would seek to appeal this based on the intent of the law.”

Mr. Flatto said he did not know his campaign was a slate committee, even though he personally signed a certificate of exemption from forming a candidate committee and despite the fact that his campaign’s statement of organization clearly identifies it as a “slate committee.”

Fairfield has lots of corruption with a little “c” beneath the surface but Bridgeport always overshadows it.

Flatto(D) and Shays(R) both took money – big money – from the developers and their wives on this one if anyone is inclined to search the link.
