Perez to Pay Election Fine

by Genghis Conn · November 15th, 2007, 8:17 am · 13 Comments

Congratulations, Hartford! You elected the right guy:

State election officials have ordered Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez to pay $839 to settle an election complaint.

The State Elections Enforcement Commission says that Perez, in his re-election bid, illegally spent city money to distribute newspaper ads and inserts that contained his picture and name. (AP)

It’s not like there’s a pattern here or anything. Nope. And hey! There’s four more years of goodness where that came from.

But in some ways, the state is still experiencing fallout from abolishing parole in 1981
    ——–
“Letting someone out the front door or the front gates on the very last day of incarceration is nowhere near as good as transitioning the person back into the community, which has a much higher success rate,” said DOC spokesman Brian Garnett.

Huh? You mean there’s election laws in Hartford?

That place is a toilet. They deserve to get what they voted in.

WASHINGTON — The House, joined by Rep. Christopher Shays, has passed a $50 billion bill to pay for the Iraq war while setting a goal of bringing most troops home by December 2008.
    ——
Shays, R-4, called it a “reasonable time line for drawdown of troops in Iraq” that is similar to one he proposed this year.

White House Press Secretary Dana Perino said Wednesday that Bush would veto the bill should it come to his desk.

Perez’s third term to me feels very similar to the beginning of Rowland’s third term. One got the feeling that one way or the other, Rowland wasn’t going to make it through all four years and it appears that Perez is on a similar path. Count me surprised if he’s in office by 2011.

I’m Catholic but I wonder about the First Amendment question. Is anyone aware of other state grants for infrastructure at religious schools?

  • 10 toucan // Nov 15, 2007 at 11:24 am ·

The First Ammendmenat is certainly a question here but the other question is if the RC schools in Milford are getting capitol improvement funds then why aren’t all of the other RC Schools around the state getting funds to make capitol improvements as well – BTW, I know the answer to that one!.

Wow, you all have some real class. Didn’t your mothers teach you any sort of kindness or respect?

Perez did not get the majority of the vote. There have been reports of questionable antics by poll workers. Even more, if you took a look at the city council race, there were people who got huge vote counts in areas of the city where they have not done any campaigning. This is what should be up for discussion.

But here, on a site where one would expect some intelligent dialog, all I’m seeing is a lot of sarcasm and the airing of several individuals’ superiority complexes.
