Dems Choose Ken Curran to run for DeLuca’s Senate Seat

Yes, the same Ken Curran who worked for Joe Lieberman and Eddie Perez.

Sigh.

    So Perez’s stench reaches as far west as Southbury now? What is this state coming to?

    Any insight as to how it went down? I’m a little befuddled as to why 32nd SD Dems would reject a former Ambassador and U.S. Undersecretary of State in favor of a beer-bellied, “I’d Rather Be Blogging” T-shirt-wearing liberal? Not exactly a representative sample of the district. Remember what happened when Dems nominated former New York Republican Rep. Ed Meyer (aka. Fred MacMurray), to run against Bill Aniskovich? Would have thought they would have applied the same logic here. Nevertheless, it’s Currant versus Kane…….sounds like a WWE undercard.

    Otherwise I have no insight into this. Curran isn’t who I would have picked but mostly because I don’t like the company he chooses to keep. Do Democrats even have a realistic shot at winning the seat?

    Kenny is the man. He would be a solid addition to the Dem side in the state Senate. Give him a break with all the Lieberman/Perez bullshit– He worked for Lieberman far before the indy run and he also worked for solid Dem Jim Maloney. Instead– give the guy props for being a hard charging young Democrat who ran against DeLuca back in 1998 right after he graduated from college when no one else older than him would.

    Are any other Dems around here tired of attacking other Democrats? I sure am– back a solid guy who is trying to win turn an R seat to a D seat and cut the bullshit.

    GC–point was: when the dems have a seat that is thought of as being “safe GOP” (don’t think that exists anymore in CT) they have performed well when they’ve brought in candidates that fit the district (see: Meyer vs. Aniskovich). Not many outside the Meyer camp thought that one could be taken…including Bill Aniskovich, which turned out to be the fatal flaw. In this case, I would have thought they’d have done a similar move. If you’re Don Williams and your political people are just sitting around, why not take a shot at a seat like this in a special? Nothing to lose, plus a win guarantees the veto-proof through the next session regardless of what Finch decides to do. To quote Peter Griffin: “it’s Win-friggin-win, baby.”

    “Veto-proof” assumes that all of the Democrats are willing to vote the same way. That’s not exactly what we’ve seen with the current crop of Dems in the legislature. If all of the legislators were Democrats, would they be able to override a veto by Rell? It’s not clear to me that they would.

    Also– Do you know this district? Seriously– this is a GOP strong hold and home of the moderate Democrat. Jarjura anyone? Lieberman was met with cheers and applause at Jarjura’s swearing in this year. Ned Lamont whacko- unelectable lefty’s need not apply in this district.

    Really? They chose Curran? Don’t they know the makeup of this district? Isn’t this campaign replacing someone who was just involved with a scandal (DeLuca) and now the Dem’s are going to run a guy whose last employer just had his grand jury named. I don’t know if it’s just me but McCarthy had a pretty impressive resume, which is what it would have taken, for a Democrat to win this district. I don’t know who voted to nominate Curran, but at least I won’t have to waste my time volunteering for the Dem’s in this campaign. STUPID, STUPID, STUPID.

    Based on the history of opinions of this blog though…Ken probably has a good chance of winning…

    I have had the pleasure of working with Ken Curran on two grueling campaigns with Congressman Jim Maloney. He is affable, hard working and a great person.

    I am unsure about the real political experience of those denigrating Kenny. If you have been one of those who have merely commented on a blog, that’s a great first step, now get involved even further. Take time, like Kenny did, to run for office, like Kenny is now or back when no one else wanted to challenge DeLuca in 1998.

    Or, take a paycut, like Kenny did, to work on a number of different campaigns.

    Or, better yet, take action, like Kenny has in the past and will continue in the future.

    Or, take heed of the words of a great President who said, “It is not the critic who counts: not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles or where the doer of deeds could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood.”

    And turn your words into action.

    You will find that many who comment here have pedigrees well in excess of that of Mr. Curran, and are not simply a group of basement underpants bloggers.

    I can assure you that a number of those here have exceeded Mr. Curran not only in words but in deeds and action.

    Lastly, I always want to throw up when a Democrat quotes Theodore Roosevelt.

    Whoops, did I forget to mention that Ken Curran said he would never work for Lieberman, should he turn his back on 2006 Dem primary voters….

    Then of course he did just that by quietly working for Lieberman throughout the Fall, actively working against the Dem nominee Ned Lamont.

    How is that for character??

    Maybe Ken should be running on the Connecticut for Lieberman ticket…

    I know it must blow your tiny mind there is more than one moderate Democrat in this state, but I am definitely not Ken Curran. I’m a Hartford attorney and I’ve known Ken though his work and some mutual friends for several years.

    The level of discourse here has become so incredibly low– calling a guy a “scuzz bucket”– jesus. Real classy.

    I’ve worked with Ken Curran on a past campaign, and he was never anything but helpful, kind and responsive. We all know that working in politics means sometimes having to subvert your own personally-held beliefs in the interests of your boss. We shouldn’t damn Curran by the apparent sins of his employers.

    I say this for Kenny Curran, he is a guy that has worked his tail off as a volunteer for the towns in the 32nd– so lets give him a shot. I have known Ken since we were High School Football teammates and he is one of the most loyal people I have ever known. To those of you who do not like his choice of employers, give Ken a chance– I think you will like his politics and more, I am sure you will like the man.

    In a special election, in this GOP district (more than an century of GOP electeds in the 32nd)– the democrats might have a shot– if we don’t eat our own first.

    BTW, Lieberman was not at Jarjura’s swearing-in, nor was he the receipient of applause (he wasn’t mentioned).

    Ken is a class act. A truly loyal guy and would be an excellent addition to the CT Senate. He’s honest and hard working and I would be honored to be represented by him!
