Rob Russo is apparently the winner in the 22nd District, according to The Everyday Republican.
More on this as it comes in, but this is a pretty significant win for the Republicans and a blow to Democrats. Democrats will now control the chamber 23-13. That is one seat short of the 24 required to make 2/3rds.
Will Bill Finch get the blame?
Update: More at Only in Bridgeport.
Update 2: Everyday Republican has the numbers: Russo won 3639 (62%)-2215 (38%). Those numbers, if accurate, are absolutely astonishing.

Let the fun begin…
Will there be a more humble Williams and Amann?
Will they get blamed for not passing Senate vacancy bill, as an example….
Great job, Russo!

yes its the finch/perez/lieberman/amann/McCain cabal they conspired to get Russo elected.
His name rec. had no effect, nor his comparative youth and bridgeport address.

Rob Russo is apparently the winner..
As predicted in the last “supermajority” post..
The evil Governor Rell now gets ALL the blame for misfirings by Amann and Williams.

Yeah…are you sure it isn’t that voters haven’t seen much delivery recently? Why would Amann conspire to destroy his own majority? Explain that one to me…
I love when people make up all kinds of conspiracy theories rather than accept the plain and simple solution: more voters wanted this guy.

Does anyone have the turnout numbers for each town? Judging by the results, I have to assume that roughly 15 people voted in Bridgeport today.

That’s what I’m thinking (I actually did see in several places that Russo did very, very well in Bridgeport), but I haven’t seen the town-by-town numbers yet.

So, where are the MLNers who in these very pages concluded the GOP was dead, and seemed to predict that not only would Russo lose huge, but aparently in the fall there would be no Republicans left in the legislature? Not here to talk I see.
That’s okay. We’ll give you a few more days to cry and pound your pillows at night before you go to sleep before you treat us to more of your trademark arrogance and brilliant analysis.
To Robert Russo, congratulations!

I expect to hear Republicans making all kinds of positive predictions but you have to chalk this one up to LOW VOTER TURNOUT a luxury they won’t enjoy in the Nov. elections.

That’s a very large margin to overcome, Sandy. Russo becomes the incumbent and begins the November campaign today. I bet Democrats who were waiting for Mulligan to lose so they could run in November are thinking twice this morning.
If it were a squeaker, I’d tend to agree with you. But this one wasn’t close.

>>LOW VOTER TURNOUT
Uh….say what?
The weather was fabulous yesterday; so even those that fail to vote at the slightest excuse had no reason not to.
Frankly; as I drove around the district from polling place to polling place I was concerned.
Although aware of our own GOTV (`get out the vote’) operation - we had no way of knowing what might be happening on the other side.
Apparently nothing.
This seat was the Democrats to lose; and they did.
Get used to it.
Our house & senate people are working with our state central operation more smoothly and closely that at any time in the past 30 years.

I wonder if the Democrats are really losing sleep over this one. Now that the “supermajority” is gone, they can blame everything on Rell and the GOP again. Plus, what good was their supermajority when they couldn’t manage to utilize it anyways?

I’m surprised the Demcorats never passed that senate vacancy bill. Now they can’t.

Three cheers for two party government! Although, by the conversation you’d think the Republicans had captured the majority by one seat. Really they just killed an impotent super majority, so the Democrats in the legislature wont be able to pass any bill of substance… what else is new?

They couldn’t before either. That’s why they didn’t. That’s the whole point… they have been unable to do anything of significance, and are crushed under their own weight.
