On Friday, the Chairman of the House Transportation Committee, Representative Jim Oberstar (D-Minn), will be visiting New London and listen to the Transportation concerns of SE CT according to today’s, April 17, 2008, New London Day.

According to the article, Chairman Oberstar is visiting at the invitation of 2nd District Congressman Joe Courtney.  After visiting the Coast Guard Academy in the morning, Oberstar will be at a session at Fort Trumbull on transportation needs.  This will give local transportation experts to opportunity to bend the Congressman’s ear on such issues as Route 11 and the widening of I-95, and other areas of Federal involvement.  According to the article, Congressman Courtney is planning that Congressman Oberstar will experience the Route 11/ Route 85 connection enroute from Bradley Airport to the Coast Guard Academy.  It certainly won’t hurt to have an influential Committee Chair see our problems first hand.  It remains to be seen if any actual federal dollars will result from the visit.
