As long suspected, Democrats seem to have the votes to overturn the governor’s veto of the minimum wage hike (and the related tip credit bill) during the veto override session this Monday.
“We’re within striking distance,” Larry Perosino, spokesman for House Speaker James Amann, D-Milford, said Friday.
The unbelievably lame snag?
Amann has said he supports overturning the veto but was uncertain whether enough lawmakers could return to the capitol for the so-called veto session Monday. (Lockhart)
…Fine time for a vacation. At the very least, all of those who supported this bill should try to make some time to get to Hartford on Monday and pass it again.
I’m curious about other vetoed bills, like the one that called for the creation of a health and human services cabinet and another helping developers in Naugatuck and Norwalk. These bills passed almost unanimously. …Did the votes for these simply vanish? Will the legislature even attempt to pass them again?
Perosino said the minimum wage bill is the only veto of Rell’s lawmakers plan to override Monday.
Figures. And that, barring another special session, is a fitting end to the speakership of Jim Amann.
