Providers Not on Board with Charter Oak

The Charter Oak Health Plan is going pretty well, all things considered. A lot of people who haven’t had health insurance are signing up, showing that there really is a need for just this kind of service in the state.

One problem, though: there aren’t enough doctors and hospitals willing to join the plan.

Is this a flaw in the plan? Or is it because our entire creaky, unwieldy health care system is so fatally flawed that small fixes like this are doomed to be plagued with just this sort of problem?

Of course, it could just be that providers will slowly come on board as the program spreads. I certainly hope so. What’s the point of affordable health insurance for the otherwise uninsured if they can’t actually go see a doctor?
