Boehner to Headline Fundraiser for Cappiello

The News-Times reports that House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) will headline a fundraiser for David Cappiello today in Danbury. Both Cappiello and Republican State Party Chair Chris Healy are excited by the visit:

Cappiello said he was excited to have Boehner come to Danbury in support of his campaign.

“For me this particular visit is less about fundraising and more about knowing that there are people both in the district and in Washington that believe I have a good shot at winning this race,” Cappiello said.

Chris Healy, chairman of the state Republican Party, said it’s an honor and a tribute to have Boehner visit Danbury.

“John Boehner is part of a group of reform-minded Republicans that came into office in the 1990s and got things done,” Healy said.

Here’s to hoping that someone asks Rep. Boehner to explain his recent disturbing comments regarding Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi:

“She’s gonna bring us back and not deal with it? The American people are gonna hang her,” Boehner said. When pressed further, Boehner said it would “be fine, as long as we get a vote on our bill.”

Nothing says confidence in your electoral prospects like the mixing of the language of politics with that of violence. At least he managed to refrain from hitting her with a cane.

Democrats Miller (CA) and Markey (MA) responded to Boehner’s comments:

Mr. Boehner’s comments about the Speaker are offensive, inappropriate and deliberately misleading.

First of all, no public official should use language implying bodily harm to anyone, whether they are referring to the Speaker of the House or any other American. That is completely outrageous. [Miller]

Assertions of physical violence toward the Speaker of the House have no place in the halls of Congress. Period.

Democracy is about settling differences through debate, without violence. It is unfortunate that the Minority Leader allowed violence to creep into his overheated rhetoric. [Markey]
