Nystrom Rising in Norwich

by Heath · November 23rd, 2009, 7:36 am · 1 Comment

Norwich’s Mayor-elect, Peter Nystrom, has a long four years ahead of him that will really get started when he gets sworn in on December 1.

But for the UPS driver-turned-Mayor, the days will seem as long as the years:

Mayor-elect Nystrom hopes to grab a 4:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. shift at UPS. In the afternoon he will swap his UPS browns for a jacket and tie, spend time at City Hall and keep evening hours open for all those meetings. “I’m planning on having fun for the next four years,” Nystrom said during a recent interview, seemingly unfazed by the idea of such long days.

The former State Representative and one-time challenger for the State Senate’s 19th District is remarkably candid in the piece.  Well worth a read.

Mayor-elect Nystrom was an effective legislator while holding down the UPS job so I am sure that he will be an effective mayor as well. I was amazed that he was able to make as many morning meetings, etc. as a legislator as he did while holding down his day (actually night) job. He certainly has a great deal of stamina. He is one of those moderate Rs that New England is famous for.
