Rules for Commenting

1. No insulting or belittling other posters.

2. Criticism of groups, parties, causes or other people is fine–insulting, belittling or otherwise maliciously maligning them is not.

3. Respect everyone’s right to privacy.

4. No going around starting fights for fun (trolling).

5. No libelous statements. Public figures can be attacked and criticized–but only up to a point. No personal stuff, folks. Keep it political.

6. No racist, homophobic or sexist remarks. Obviously.

7. No posting entire articles. Credited passages along with a link are fine, but full articles are a copyright violation.

8. Please make every effort to be courteous, civil and understanding.

Repeated and flagrant violations of these rules will lead to banning.

This applies for front-page posters as well as commenters. If you see any of this in any of our posts, let me know.

These rules are pretty straightforward, I think, and easy enough to follow.

This site has rule #2 for commenting, which states in part…”insulting, belittling or otherwise maliciously maligning them is not” (acceptable commenting). Generally, when I read comments as mean-spirited as those recently posted about Caruso, I don’t know what prompted the writers to hold such angst against someone. Secondly, when I read the rules for commenting so that I can write this, I wonder other things about the posters ability to research the subject matter, when simple rules can’t be followed, or thoughts can’t be expressed logically, rather than spitefully.

I think you might have a point in there somewhere. Please think about this some more and repost tomorrow morning after tonights festivities wear off.

Depending on how it is interpreted your “#6 No racist, homophobic or sexist remarks. Obviously,” may be incongruous with your stated goal of being non-partisan. Is The Bell Curve racist? Is Don’t ask, don’t tell homophobic? Is Lawrence Summers sexist?
